California - Friends of NRA

In 2018, the San Leandro Junior Optimist Rifle Club received a generous grant from the NRA Foundation, with assistance from the California Friends of NRA. This grant included equipment and supplies that directly support our ongoing education and instruction for local youth on firearms safety and rifle marksmanship. The grant we received in 2018 included much-needed upgrades to our target rifles, cleaning supplies, safety equipment, match-grade ammunition, and spotting scopes. We also received funding to purchase an advanced target-scoring system that will enable us to more readily process the completed targets of our Junior Club members and participate in virtual rifle matches with other clubs across the country/world via the included software platform. There are precious few junior programs like ours in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the support of this NRA Foundation grant helps ensure we maintain a high-quality, affordable program for local youth that offers competitive opportunities in smallbore rifle sports.

NRA Grant (2014)

Once again, we offer a big "thank you!" to the NRA Foundation and California Friends of NRA for a grant that enables our Junior shooters to compete on a national level. This grant enabled the Junior Club to purchase match-grade Anschutz rifles to improve their skill level and be considered for potential collegiate scholarships in shooting sports. This grant also helped us purchase new safety equipment, spotting scopes, scope stands, off-hand stands, ISU Jackets, and ISU Slings, enabling youth to hone the marksmanship skills needed for Olympic-style shooting.

California Rifle and Pistol Association Grant (2012)

An unexpected grant from the California Rifle and Pistol Association provided us with five rifles, five slings, new ear and eye protection, and new mats, along with other shooting gear, which we immediately put to use to replace older items exhibiting excessive wear. The San Leandro Junior Optimist Rifle Club members truly appreciate this gift as it will go far in helping to train our young shooters in marksmanship, safety, and teamwork.

NRA Grant (2001)

Special thanks to the NRA Foundation and California Friends of NRA for their generous 2001 grant. Their money allowed our junior shooting club to purchase new rifles, sights, shooting jackets, gloves, mats, eye and ear protection, kneeling rolls, spotting scopes, scope stands, instructional videos, and a storage container. We now have high-quality equipment for shooters to use.
